History of the Department:

At the Uzbekistan State University of world languages, Korean began to be taught as a second foreign language since 1995. Since the academic year 2017-2018, the direction “philology and language teaching” (Korean language) has been opened as a separate specialty at the Faculty of theory and practice of translation, with a total of 200 students studying in the Uzbek and Russian groups of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd courses. Since the academic year 2021-2022, the Department of theory and practice of the Korean language on the basis of the Faculty of Oriental philology has been included in the same faculty. The philology and language teaching (Korean language) direction is attended by 183 students in Phase 1, Phase 2, 136 students in Phase 3, 119 students in Phase 4, and 65 students in Phase 4 of the 2021-2022 academic year. In addition, more than 100 students at the university level are studying Korean with great interest as a second foreign language.
