History of the Department: Uzdzhtu is one of the important educational institutions in the training of Chinese language specialists in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek State University of world languages has taught Chinese since 1990. At first, a group on the specialty of the Chinese language was opened at the Faculty of the Russian language in Uzdzhtu. Subsequently, since 1991, Chinese began to be taught as a second language to students of the Faculty of “theory and practice of translation” and “English Philology”. To date, about 300 university students study Chinese as a second language.
In connection with the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the people's Republic of China, the need for specialists in the Chinese language has increased significantly. The Department of Chinese philology was opened in may 2008 by the decree of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 868 of the Republic of Uzbekistan on April 1, 2010 in order to prepare students as the main direction in the Chinese language. In 2014, the Department of theory and practice of the Chinese language was established, and today this department is functioning as part of the Faculty of Oriental philology.

Today, 60230100-philology and language training (Chinese language), 5120100 - philology and language training (Chinese language) - 400 students in the field of Education, 70230101-23 undergraduates in the specialty of linguistics are studying, in addition to more than 300 students studying Chinese as a second language. The main purpose of the Department of theory and practice of the Chinese language is to train Chinese language specialists with in-depth knowledge of Chinese language, Chinese literature, history, geography, culture, local lore, translation theory and practice, and Chinese philology.
