Department History:
The Department of Integrated English Course No. 1 of UzSWLU (Uzbekistan State World Languages University) began operating in 2019 as part of the Faculty of English Language No. 1. In 2017, under the leadership of PhD in Pedagogical Sciences Khurshid Mamatqulov, the Integrated English Course Department No. 1 was founded. In 2018, the department was headed by PhD in Philological Sciences Sobir Khamzayev. Since 2019, the department has been headed by PhD in Pedagogical Sciences M. Gulyamova.

Main Objective:
The department aims to train highly qualified specialists who meet the requirements of the time and international standards within the framework of the Law on Education.

Main Tasks:

Conduct practical and other types of classes at a high methodological and professional level in accordance with the state educational standards;

Supervise students’ bachelor’s theses and master’s dissertations;

Fairly assess students’ knowledge using the credit-module system;

Create conditions for linking theoretical knowledge with practical skills;

Develop educational programs for departmental subjects and submit them for approval;

Prepare and review textbooks, teaching aids, methodological and visual materials;

Participate in preparing educational literature upon request of private educational institutions;

Work with gifted students, prepare them for Olympiads and competitions, and improve independent learning skills;

Create favorable conditions for academic research by the faculty members;

Ensure integration of education, science, and industry;

Review and approve individual plans of teaching, methodological, scientific, and organizational work of faculty members.

Fulfillment of targeted indicators in educational, international, and scientific activities;
Study, summarize and disseminate the experience of senior faculty members, assimilate new pedagogical and information technologies, and implement them in the educational process.

Scientific Direction of the Department:
The planned scientific research of the Department of Integrated English Course No. 1 is conducted in the following priority areas:

1. Exploring methods for improving reading skills;


2. Developing techniques to enhance writing skills;


3. Improving listening comprehension skills;


4. Developing students' pronunciation knowledge and skills based on a communicative approach;


5. Expanding students' vocabulary through discourse analysis;


6. Enhancing students' communicative competencies based on the integration of speech activities.

Department Achievements:
 

Almost 20% of the department's teaching staff have undergone advanced training abroad and hold international certificates. Several international collaborations have been established, including with Aston University (UK), London Birkbeck University, University of Reading, and University of Portsmouth. The department’s faculty members have improved their qualifications and received certificates from these institutions.
In addition, the faculty members have published theses, scientific articles, brochures, textbooks, and teaching aids. In recent years:

45 international articles,

35 international theses,

40 articles recognized by the Higher Attestation Commission,

30 theses in national conferences,

5 textbooks have been published and officially approved.


Scientific Research at the Department:
The department organizes a student scientific conference annually. On March 14 of the current year, the department held a Republican scientific-practical conference titled "Methodological Foundations of Language and Language Education Research."
The department's faculty members are actively engaged in scientific research. Each teacher is working on their own research projects under the supervision of academic advisors, in areas such as literature, pedagogy, methodology, translation studies, and linguistics.
Faculty members A. Subhonova and S. Azizov are currently in the defense process for the specialty 13.00.02 – Theory and Methodology of Education and Training.

Spiritual and Educational Activities:
 

Faculty members of the department regularly organize various events according to the approved plan.
For example, in September, on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Independence of Uzbekistan, a conversation was organized on the topic “You are the source of strength, the land of happiness, my beloved Uzbekistan!”
Events were also held in connection with "Uzbek Language as the State Language Day", under the theme “The State Language – A Symbol of Our National Spirituality”.
Round tables were held on the essence of the Law "On State Youth Policy" with the participation of specialists, and debates were organized under the slogan "We are all responsible for the future of the Motherland".
Events were also held in student dormitories.
