On September 2, a meeting was held at the Uzbekistan State World Languages University with Professor Mahbuba Temirovna Ergasheva from Vancouver Island University (Canada), an academic and advisor on migration issues.
The meeting was attended by Rector I. Tuxtasinov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation A. Nasirov, and Head of the International Cooperation Department X. Yuldashev.
During the conversation, a number of important issues were discussed, including:
• Establishing ties with Canada’s leading universities (Toronto, Alberta, Ottawa, Waterloo, McGill);
• Student, teacher, and research exchange programs;
• Organizing professional development courses for English and French language teachers and engaging them at UzSWLU;
• Launching joint education programs and summer schools;
• Scientific collaboration: publishing articles, joint supervision, peer review, international conferences, and seminars;
• Attracting graduates from Canadian schools, colleges, and universities to study at UzSWLU’s lyceum, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels;
• Participation in youth forums, festivals, and various competitions.
Mahbuba Ergasheva, supporting UzSWLU’s proposals, emphasized the relevance of launching educational programs based on distance learning and franchising, particularly in high-demand fields such as agribusiness, veterinary science, and educational management, where job opportunities in Canada are significant.
Both parties also acknowledged that organizing student internships is an important area of cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Canadian universities and the agency headed by M. Ergasheva.
