In 1994, the Faculty of Translation Studies was created at the Uzbek State University of Foreign Languages. Muminov Omon Muminovich, professor of the Uzbek State University of World Languages, candidate of philological sciences, an experienced scientist who made a great contribution to the development of the field of translation studies, author of about 10 textbooks and more than 100 articles, scientific supervisor of more than 15 candidates of sciences was appointed dean of this faculty. In 2002-2012, he worked as the head of the department of theory and practice of English translation at the Uzbek State University of World Languages. In 2012-2017 he worked as a professor of translation studies at the Uzbek State University of World Languages. He also carried out theoretical and practical activities of the department related to translation issues and performed tasks related to translation skills and translator skills. Omon Muminov was an outstanding scientist who raised translation studies in Uzbekistan to a new level. His textbooks and teaching manuals, such as “English for Translators”, “Translation history”, “Practical translation”, “A guide to Consequative translation”, “Written translation”, “Theory of translation” are still among the main educational literature in higher educational institutions for the training of translators. Contributions to the development of the department were made by such leading teachers as H.B. Samigova, B.A. Kholbekova, L.K. Zuparova, D.Yu. Mirsagatova, Sh.N.Abdullayeva. Professors and teachers of the department also created many manuals and educational and methodological complexes. From the 2022-2023 academic year, Dzhamilya Rustamovna Abduganieva began her activity as the head of the department. From the 2021-2022 academic year, the department was divided into two departments, and a separate department was formed for junior courses. Thus, our department began to be called the department of “English Translation Theory”. Currently, the department has 42 professor-teachers (32 main, 14 deputies, including 1 doctor of philology, professor, 4 candidates of science, 6 senior teachers and 4 teachers)
