New Initiative Launched Under the “Dolzarb 90 kun” Project
At the 3rd Faculty of English at the Uzbekistan State World Languages University (UzSWLU), a new “Reading Club” initiative has been launched in collaboration with second-year department instructors and Andrew Staniland, targeting talented students.
The primary goal of the project is to deepen students’ understanding of English literature and develop their skills in text analysis and idea exchange.
Andrew Staniland spoke about his new project — a book titled “Ghazals to God”. He has selected 24 ghazals by Alisher Navoi, all of which are devotional in nature, and is currently working on their English translation.
During sessions, students actively participate by translating texts word-for-word, each paired with a mentor. Weekly analysis is conducted through Google Docs.
Duration: 6 months
Expected outcomes:
• Improved reading and translation skills in English
• Encouragement of free expression of ideas
• Increased interest in literature
This project aims to enrich students not only linguistically but also spiritually.
