International Scientific-Practical Conference “The Development of the Spanish Language in Uzbekistan” Opens at UzSWLU

Today, October 24, 2025, the international scientific-practical conference titled “The Development of the Spanish Language in Uzbekistan: Historical Context, New Opportunities, and Contemporary Trends” commenced at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages (UzSWLU).

The event was organized by the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, the Department of Applied Spanish Studies, and the Department of Theoretical Spanish Studies. Representatives of leading higher education institutions from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Russia, as well as local scholars, are taking part in the conference.

The conference was officially opened by the Rector of UzSWLU, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov. In his speech, he highlighted the gradual development of Spanish language teaching in Uzbekistan and the steady expansion of international cooperation in this field.

Congratulatory remarks were also delivered by Education Attaché of the Embassy of Spain Albert Vitria Marca, Rector of Namangan State Institute of Foreign Languages Rivojiddin Karimov, Dean of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology Hamidullo Khakimov, and professors from partner universities abroad.

During the plenary session, scientific presentations were made by Professor Alberto Rodríguez Lifante (University of Alicante), Professor Simone Hashiguti (University of Campinas), Andrés Santana Arribas (University of Cádiz), Professor Virna Velázquez Vilchis (National Autonomous University of Mexico), Professor María Alejandra Elichabe (University of Buenos Aires), and other international speakers.

The discussions focused on the teaching of the Spanish language in Uzbekistan, the use of digital resources, the training of Spanish language teachers, and modern linguodidactic approaches.

Official discussants also took an active part, sharing academic feedback on the presented reports.

The conference concluded with closing remarks by UzSWLU Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Otabek Yusupov, who expressed sincere gratitude to all participants.

The international conference will continue on October 25 with sectional sessions.
